when you have gestational diabetes, how soon can baby begin to gain more than needed weight?

I will find out after I take the 3 hour glucose test next tuesday if I have gestational diabetes, My biggest worry is that I’m going to have a HUGE baby, how soon will the baby begin to gain extra fat because of the diabetes, is it hours days or weeks, I’m 29 weeks 3 days pregnant, thank-you for your answers.
my numbers were 171 and the cut off is 135, Is that REALLY bad. HELP.
