I totally agree with Kate. You didn't fast long enough so your test wouldn't be accurate.I had to fast for atleast 12 hrs,but they said between 12-15hrs was best. She shouldn't have done the test before your time was up either, that's really irresponsible of her.Under 5.5 is a normal reading for fasting,8 or under is normal for the two hour test,if you have 75g glucose drink.Did she take 3 lots of blood? She is supposed to take blood when you get there, make you drink 75g glucose drink, then test 1hr later, then again 1hr after that.In that time you aren't allowed to drink or eat anything still. I really do think you should see your gp & ask to have it done again. Good luck :oD

<a href="http://kansieo.com">diabetes testing</a>

Hi, i have been diagnosed with GD, a result of 5.4 is not high at all, your reading should be below 7 after drinking the sugar drink, 5.4 is actually very good, i was returning results of 11 after an hour of drinking the test, the best thing to do if you are concerned is get back into contact with your doctor, tell them you don't think you fasted for long enough, they may get you to repeat it, but i really wouldn't worry about a result of 5.4, i wish i returned readings like that, but good luck!!!

Wait to hear from your doctor. If they are concerned they will send you back for the 3 hour test.

Where I live we don't even fast for the one hour test, we just go in and take it. We only fast for the 3 hour.

My 3 came back showing some insulin resistance, but no GD.

So be patient, your doctor will let you know the next step.

I had to have it done - i had so many stupid ones done, that went wrong & weren't for the right amount of time etc, so came back with funny results.

Best thing to do is to go in & say that you didn't fast for long enough & think the test should be re-done.

Mine was booked for 9am, so i was advised not to eat after 6pm the night before & to only drink water.

See if you can get the test re-booked for a morning appointment & don't eat anything after your dinner the night before - it might be awful feeling hungry & then because of the sugar rush after you have had the drink, but then at least you will know the reading is accurate.

I had ones where i had not fasted for long enough etc, & they all came back funny - like on the border line etc.

So best thing to do is to re-take it to get an accurate result. Best to be safe.
