Question by DrkAngl: I’m looking for the Diabetic Lowcarb Diet plan. Anyone know about it?
My dr. suggested I use the Diabetic LowCarb Diet, but I can’t find any other information about it. Does anyone know about this diet and where to find it?
Thanks.

I would first recommend you check with a dietitian, many times your insurance will pay for this since its cheaper than an amputation for mismanaged diabetes. You are going to need a diet specific to your needs and a dietitian is your best bet to maintain a healthy weight and a healthy blood sugar level. Many larger hospitals and Medical Centers have diabetes clinics to help you find a diet that works for you. If you can not find any resources in your area try The Carbohydrate Addicts Diet by Dr’s Rachel and Richard Heller. There is usually a copy at the local library or you can do a search on goggle for the diet and get tips and buy the book directly from them. Its a good low carb diet that still allows carbs every day so you are not craving anything.

Question by ?Ani?: Diabetic diet for women with PCOS?
I have PCOS, have been TTC #1 for 17 months, I’m overweight (5’2 and about 250lbs) and always have been, and although I’m not pre-diabteic, my dad’s mother and oldest brother are diabetic. I’ve heard a diabetic diet can help women with PCOS. I don’t eat candy or sweets, I do eat bread (occasionally), I try to eat at least one fruit a day (not fruit juice), I do drink diet soda. I’m wondering if anyone good give me some advice (about what I should eat) , or some good websites.

Question by Jill P: Gestational Diabetes — Need help with fasting levels?
Earlier this week I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes, and my doctor instructed me to meet with a dietician and take a course to help me manage it with diet. Neither is avaiable until next week, so in the meantime I’m just taking my glucose levels 4x/day and trying to adjust my diet with a sample menu I found online. My after-lunch and after-dinner numbers are great, but my fasting and after-breakfast numbers are still a little high. Anyone have any suggestions on how I can help lower these morning numbers between now and the time I am able to meet with the dietician? What has worked for you? I only have 53 days until I deliver, and I feel like the clock is ticking and every day I don’t get this right is a day that is harming my baby!

As type 2 diabetics we must change our foods to very low carb food plan and follow it fairly well. This means no more root veggies, no more soft sweet fruits, no more breads, rices, cereals, pastas; no more milk products, no more beans and tortillas, and very few desserts.
It means we must regiment our lives and not deviate much, sleeping at certain hours, eating on schedule, taking meds on schedule, exercising on schedule, being robots!!
Diabetes does not affect personal relationships at all if you don’t want it to do so.
I don’t worry about diabetes at all, I control it, it does not control me!!
I wish people didn’t automatically assume I was lazy, bonbon eating, air head! I taught nutrition to young people and prepared meals in my home to match what I was teaching. I have never just sat in a chair for hours and hours. Sometimes wished I had had a chair to sit on!! We were not and are not overweight, sofa spuds, who eat only chips and dips or bonbons!!
Also I wish people would quit slapping candy bars and cokes out of my hands because they think I should not have them!!! That is plain rude and especially so to a great grandmother!!!

my 13 year old daughter is Type 1, takes 5 insulin injections per day and is reasonably controlled. Eats whatever she wants as long as she counts it. Only one item she does not eat ever, and that is regular soda.
