I would seek a diabetes specialist and nutritionist. There have been many advances in diabetic care.
With diabetes, you will most likely die of a diabetic complication. What you do from this day on will determine when. I always tell young diabetics that its better to be on dialysis when your 70 versus when your 30.
You must live a structured lifestyle now. watching what you eat and exercising.
Good luck.

lose weight.
stop eating bread and grains in large quantities. read labels, if there is more than 30grams of carbohydrate in a serving you need to cut the portion size or don’t eat it at all.
dairy is ok, lean meat is best.
you can find some breads and grain product that have a lower carb count per serving, just check the labels.
incidently if you cut down to 30gms of carbohydrate per meal, you will likely lose the weight just from that.
no soft drinks unless they are diet.
and if you drink alcohol, do so in moderation.
just keep an eye on it, regular blood sugar checks.

There IS something you can do! If you do not want to become diabetic, you can start by eating healthier. Add fruits into your diet, you say you like them after all. Ask your mom to buy some when you guys do the groceries.
Drink more water, much on nuts or cereal instead of cookies or chips. Try finding a vegetable(s) you do like. I am sure there is at least ONE you like!
Add more exercise into your day. Instead of parking close to the entrances to places park farther away and walk. Take the stairs and not the elevator/escalator. Go for a walk every day, 20 minutes or ride your bike. Do you like swimming? Is there a pool you can go to? That is EXCELLENT for you.
You are still young, 17, you CAN change your future, but it’s up to YOU.

Well, even if you start by getting the wheat out of your diet, that will help. So just do meat and veggies–that alone will get pounds off fast. As far as pre-diabetic, I’m sure they gave you a diet or some kind of eating instructions at the doctor’s office. If not, email me and I will put you in touch with my nutritionist (and no, you won’t be eating tree bark).
And you have to exercise, sweetie, you just have to. Lastly, tell your parents you have a diet from the doctor and you have to have fruit and veggies. Even broccoli in cheese sauce doesn’t have that many calories, and the fat in the cheese sauce actually helps your body absorb the vitamins in the broccoli. So you have to tell your parents that you need to go shopping the next time they go to the store (you will probably like it) and stay out of the bread. It doesn’t help on so many, many levels.
We will all help you, we are here for you! There’s a TON of things you can do to stop it–that’s why they told you. Get started, hon!

First, follow your doctor’s directions completely.
2. Start exercising every day, even if its just a 1 mile walk each day.
3. Learn to like vegetables. And lots of fruit. If you still live at home, express to yor mother how important it is to have fresh fruits and veggies in the house so you can start eating to save your life. If you live on your own you must dicipline yourself to theses guidelines.
The lower you weight the better circulation you have to pump the toxins out of your system.
Usually the things we like to eat the most are exactly the things putting our health at risk. I know it will be difficult to change your habits, but indoing so, isnt it worth not have to check your sugar every day, may be 3 times a day, and giving yourself shots of insulin. Much less telling your friends and family what to do if you got into sugar fit?
You will also have to learn to take a small snack with you on a daily basis, as your sugar may drop in an instant and you must bring it back up as soon as possible.
Good Luck to you, and I wish you the best in getting control over the diabeties before it gets a hold on you.

eat about 4 or 5 small healthy meals a day.stay away from sweets.
loose the weight and excercise every day. you can stop it if apply yourself.the more weight you drop , along with excercise , the better your chances of not getting it……….if you get it later in life you are much better off than getting it when you are young.
