Elizabeth H asked:

My grandma and i were worried i had diabetes because i show a lot of the symptoms of some one who does. I am constantly thirsty to the point were all i think about is drinking and as soon as i can i sit n front of the sink refilling my glass. I also *** to the extreme. But in a way i so Guess makes sense since i drink so much. Another thing is a am very tired and so fatigued. I have no will or power to even sit up from the couch. But one of the things that stand out the most is my constant head aches. I have had them for about 2 months now and they seem like the just wont go away. I went to my family doctor about this adn she claimed it wa s a tension head ache and i have tried all the things that claim will Make it better. But now i practically live on different pain killers that there’s not really a point i don’t have them in my system. Ive been to the Chiropractor but still it seems not to help. My body is screwed up and the only thing that i could think of is diabetes. If the tests say i dont have it then what do you think the problem is???
I have had blood and urine samples taken and they said i dont, thats wahy im wondering what else i could have?

the three cardinal signs of DM are as follows
    eating tons
    drinking tons
    peeing tons
but those are the most simply indicators…
to be sure u have to perform the oral glucose tolerance test
it’s pretty cheap and I think u can buy the material in most pharmacies without a prescription

Drinking a lot and ****** a lot, and fatigue, do sound like the symptoms of diabetes. But when doctors suspect diabetes they order a series of tests, because those same symptoms can be caused by other things, and also diabetes can cause other symptoms.

A chiropractor wouldn’t be able to diagnose problems like diabetes. They are experts in the skeletal system, mostly the spine, and that’s not involved in diabetes.

Constant headaches could also be any number of things. Some of them can be very dangerous.

I always give the same advice in cases like this. If you know someone with diabetes, he or she will have a blood glucose meter and probably would be happy to test you. It’s a very simple test, and almost completely painless. You have to get a little speck of blood from your forearm (you used to have to ***** your fingers!) And even that test can’t tell you for sure you have diabetes, but it can rule it out if your blood sugar is normal.

But you are still having problems and you ought to go to a real doctor Your body is trying to tell you something! A doctor can diagnose other problems it could be.

Tp be sure you don’t have diabetes, you need a Haemoglobin A1C test.

It sounds a lot like stress. Yes some of the symptoms can relate to diabetes, but they also coincide with a lot of other things. You could have a kidney infection, which will cause you to urinate a lot, which in turn can cause you to take in a lot of fluids. Unless the doctor does complete blood work and a glucose tolerance test, you won’t know what is wrong. The tests you can buy in a drug store are not reliable. I think you have some other minor problems.

I think you have Cyberchondria.Plus Depression.

Cyberchondria is a colloquial term for hypochondria in individuals who have researched medical conditions on the Internet. The media and the Internet often contribute to hypochondria, as articles, TV shows and advertisements regarding serious illnesses such as cancer and multiple sclerosis (some of the common diseases hypochondriacs think they have) often portray these diseases as being random, obscure and somewhat inevitable. Inaccurate portrayal of risk and the identification of non-specific symptoms as signs of serious illness contribute to exacerbating the hypochondriac’s fear that they actually have that illness.

Treat the depression first. Worry about Diabetes later.

Hmmm. Go back to your doctor and tell him or her about your constant need to *** and drink. Ask about diabetes insipidus. This isn’t the same as diabetes mellitus which is the one illness you’re worried about. This is different and causes you to *** a lot since your body can’t concentrate your urine.

Still, i hope this is nothing and you’re just paranoid.

    Good luck!

Marshall y, hemoglobin A1c isn’t used to diagnose DM, it’s actually to monitor treatment of DM. :)

    (1) try to find a more experienced Doctor. take the blood test and urine test with you so he or she do not have to repeat. They can send you to the right specialist.
    (2) If you can go to a one of the university clinic or a clinic like mayo clinic in your area, they can help you.
write down your symptoms and explain it to them and let them gave you an opinion.

try to look at what you eat and drink. (things like supplements)

It’s good that you’re aware the problem runs in your family. If you’ve been tested and they show that you are within normal limits you don’t need to be overly worried. Just follow a good eating plan and exercise and if you can, get a glucometer and keep a running record of your blood sugars on a daily basis. The chart below gives readings for a diabetic but the lower levels are well within normal for all persons. The site below is also loaded with other helpful information.
