Does this mean I am diabetic?

lauren asked:

Hey there, I need some help. My dad saw me eating a biscuit the other day and he said ‘all that sugar you eat, I’m suprised you’re not diabetic’ I didn’t think much of it at the time. Later when I was bored I went online and looked at symptoms of diabetes because I will admit I do eat ALOT of biscuits, cakes, sugary foods etc and don’t do much exercise, but I don’t really notice because I don’t gain a lot of weight :/ I read the symptoms and realised I had been going to the toilet a lot, having irritated hands and itching them alot, I sometimes randomly felt exhausted then I was fine about ten minutes later, my dad wants to have me tested but I dunno. I’m 15 and a girl btw. I don’t know about this, could you give me some info please and tell me what you think… thanks :)

You do not eat your way into diabetes. You must have a predisposition to the disease, or an accident, surgery, or medication induced diabetes.

The only way to know for sure, is to have some blood tests. No one can diagnose diabetes without them.

See first post , add, pancreas aren’t working right.

Sugar has nothing to do with it.

Simple blood test to get tested. Keep Dad happy. :)

You need to listen to your dad. What can hurt to find out? If you want information on diabetes, look up the American Diabetes Asso. website for lots of good information. If what you say is accurate, then you do have symptoms and need to see a doctor to find out for sure. Take care

sugar and biscuits and other similar foods do not cause diabetes. It’s unlikely that you have undiagnosed diabetes because it makes you very sick. If you dad wants to have you tested, it’s an easy enough blood test and everyone will know for sure.

You DO NOT get diabetes from eating too much sugar. Having irritated and itchy hands are not a symptom of diabetes either.
I have had it for 14 years and honestly I get really sick of it when people just throw words like that around and say “dont eat that or you’ll get diabetes”

Be open with your dad. He has your best interest at heart.

Consult your physician to determine if you are diabetic or not. Also check for blood lipid profile to check for hearth health, especially if you are diabetic. Use the figures as your baseline.

No one is too young to start having a heart problem. I’m not scaring you. I’m just telling you to start taking good care of yourself by having healthy diet to reduce risks of a heart problem.

You need to improve your diet.

Reduce consumption of sweets and carbohydrates, especially simple carbohydrates.

No one is too young or too old to have diabetes.

You cannot get diadetes from sugar consumption, but you can get it from genes, or auto immune. What are all of your symptoms?? Are people telling you you’re loosing weight? Do you feel nausous after you eat, or during meal time? Are you constantly thirsty? And frequently going to the bathroom. If these symptoms are present, then I would go see your doctor.
