There are many Type 1 prevention studies that would probably love to screen her.

The largest one in the world going on right now is called "TRIGR". You can also check out the Trial Net site:.
may have other Type 1 screening and prevention trials, simply search for "Type 1 diabetes".

As mentioned, there is some evidence to indicate early gluten (wheat, barley, oats) exposure and casein exposure (cow's milk) MAY be linked to Type 1, but the studies have been inconclusive. Some have shown no link, and some get Type 1 diabetes despite never drinking milk or eating gluten. However, it cannot hurt to try a gluten and casein free diet for her. When the TRIGR study is done, we will know more.

One study is looking at a lack of Vitamin D as also being a possible trigger. There are also many virus theories.

Good luck!

<a href="http://kansieo.com">diabetic testing</a>

You should also be concerned with giving her milk and dairy products. See my diabetes info webpage and scroll down to the type 1 info section:

There's mounting evidence that the body's immune system reaction destroying the islets is related to the proteins found in milk triggering the reaction.

You can ask her pediatrician to test for it. Or you could sign up with trialnet.

Are you Type 1? There is only a 3 to 5 % chance your baby would be too. I would talk to her doctor. That may be a bit unnecessary to put her through that right now. I understand your concern, I am a type 1 with 2 kids and I am always worried about their health, but I also don't want then to be put through blood work just because. if the chances were any greater then maybe I would but for now I am not too worried about the 3 to 5 % likely hood.
