Do I have diabetes, will be tested if likely?
15 year old female
Weighs between 7 and 8 stone (around 47 kg)
Recent insomnia
Nauseas around food
Other info:
Going to the toilet more often
Thirstier
Also, haven’t been eating as much as sugar as usual, as I have been told to reduce sugar intake by my orthodontist.
If it is likely I have diabetes, I will ask to be tested.
Also, I forgot to add
My maternal grandfather has Type 2 diabetes.
I haven’t been previously tested, although I was in hospital late last year due to abdominal pain.
I usually have a very healthy appetite, but even thinking of eating something makes me feel queasy.
Tingling in hands or feet is a symptom of diabetes? I have been experiencing tingling feelings in the tips of my fingers, as well as shaking from wrist/fingers.
Clarissa: I eat a lot of fruit and veg, orange juice, and I especially love chicken sandwiches. I usually have 2 bowls of cereal for breakfast, two sandwiches for lunch, and either a few bowls of home-made veg soup, pizza, chicken and veg, pork and veg, steak and veg, for my supper. I eat fruit regularly between meals and orange juice and water ever half-hour.
The nausea around food is recent, along with the inability to sleep, roughly two weeks. I have been going to the toilet more often since the start of the year, and the tingling in my finger tips has been a thing I first noticed two months ago. I have also been thirstier since the start of the year, likely due to going to the bathroom more often.
I don’t have any other health problems that I am aware of.
I have been more .. emotional, lately, I cry easily, but find it is dry sobbing rather than tears. I find that my eyes ***** as if to make tears but don’t.
Thanks

diabetes testing

all those symptons at your age are normal…
and ur weight isn’t that much
assuming 7 to 8 stones, is like 100 lbs?
Website content
well those symptoms are common at your age.
If you experience blurry vision, tingling in your hands or feet, or you notice your wounds wont heal then I suggest going to see a doctor. But getting tested on those symptoms alone you it will probably be negative.

That fits other things better than diabetes.
You could ask if your school nurse can do a finger-stick. A few readings over 120 is cause for a better test .

What kind of diet are you eating? Do you have any problems with anxiety, depression, adhd, etc? Do you have any other health problems? How long have these symptoms been going on?
edit: I’m assuming that the other question you spotted that I had answered was the one where I suspected the girl of having celiac disease. You do have a lot of similar symptoms and your diet seems to be very heavy on the breads and cereals. Often people try to start eating healthier so they eat less meat, cheese, and candy and start eating lots of fiber in the form of cereal and whole grain bread. Those things are good for you, but you really shouldn’t eat that much of them. A lot of times when people go vegetarian they start feeling tired and nauseous and it’s not because their diets aren’t nutritious, it’s because they’re eating too gluten and soy. Gluten intolerance is very common and emotional changes, tingling in your extremeties, as well as all the other symptoms you listed are very common. I think you should start there because it’s something you can test on your own without going to a doctor. Cut gluten out of your diet for a couple of weeks. Instead of eating cereal for breakfast, eat bacon, eggs, fruit or corn or rice chex instead of your couple bowls of cereal. For lunch, you can get some gluten free bread for your sandwiches, and for dinner you can eat tacos or a salad instead of the pizza. This will give you a good start in determining if this is your problem. You will probably be feeling better after 2 weeks if gluten is your problem. Even if it’s not, you will have ruled out a very common health problem.
If that doesn’t help, I think you should see a doctor about this. Diabetes is less likely to cause the emotional symptoms and insomnia, but it can cause the other problems too. Let me know if you have any questions!
