Diabetic with kidney problems?
young and reckless asked:
Hi. I’m 16 and a type 1 diabetic for almost 10 years. When I went to get annual blood and urine test, my doctors told me i need to get more test done because there might be something wrong with my kidneys. My test is coming up next week but i am very nervous. I have felt kind of …..off lately. I’ve been extremely tired, ill sleep 15-19 hours a day, i can’t seem to think straight, and i have been ****** a lot. I also heard that you can get a rash when you are having kidney problems, and today i was sent home from school because a rash broke out all over my arm and back. It is itchy and burns. My numbers do run pretty high. Does this sound like i could have kidney problems?

Because many diabetics eventually suffer from kidney issues, your endocrinologist will run routine tests for kidney issues. They also look for thyroid issues because many diabetics also suffer from thyroid problems. The idea is to catch the issue before it becomes a significant issue.
If your blood sugar numbers are often high, you are at risk of doing irreversible damage to your kidneys and other organs. It is important for you to work with your endocrinologist to find a method to get your numbers within normal limits. Some highs and lows are normal, but you should have normal numbers most of the time.
When you are high (over 240) do you test for ketones? Are you keeping a log of how many carbs you eat and how much insulin you are taking? A thorough log with as much detail as possible will help you and your endocrinologist find patterns of highs and lows and maybe adjust your insulin dose. A continuous glucose monitor may also reveal issues with you rinsulin regimen.
Sleeping for long periods of time is common among teenagers, it’s not a diabetes thing.
To answer your specific question – only your doctor can determine if you have a kidney issue. The rash can be plain old hives and have nothing to do with your kidneys or diabetes.

The Burden of Kidney Failure
Each year in the United States, more than 100,000 people are diagnosed with kidney failure, a serious condition in which the kidneys fail to rid the body of wastes.1 Kidney failure is the final stage of chronic kidney disease (CKD).
Diabetes is the most common cause of kidney failure, accounting for nearly 44 percent of new cases.1 Even when diabetes is controlled, the disease can lead to CKD and kidney failure. Most people with diabetes do not develop CKD that is severe enough to progress to kidney failure. Nearly 24 million people in the United States have diabetes, 2 and nearly 180,000 people are living with kidney failure as a result of diabetes.1

“I’ve been extremely tired, ill sleep 15-19 hours a day, i can’t seem to think straight, and i have been ****** a lot.” – That may be attributed to your blood sugar being high. I know I had those symptoms before I was diagnosed with diabetes. If you’ve got good control of your sugar, those above-mentioned symptoms would just gradually go away.
With your ?kidney problem, only your doctor can answer that. If you’re not happy with his answer, go for a 2nd or 3rd opinion.
Good luck!

Young lady , you must get blood sugar level in control. Now. Rashes occur frequently in diabetics. All problems you have are related to High sugar levels. In the mean time follow these simple instructions below.
The kidneys are bean-shaped organs, each about the size of a fist, located near the middle of the back, just below the rib cage. Every day, the kidneys process about 200 quarts of blood to sift out about two quarts of metabolic wastes. The substances the kidneys remove includes the breakdown products of harmful compounds that get into our bodies one way or another. The waste and extra water become urine.
The kidneys are such efficient, compact, and miraculous filters that they put to shame the dialysis machines used to maintain patients with kidney failure. This natural purification system can operate efficiently only if the volume of water flowing through it is sufficient to carry away the wastes. For this reason, dehydration is the greatest threat to the process of blood purification and the most common source of stress on the kidneys. Tobacco smoking (which impairs blood flow to all organs), high blood pressure, excessive consumption of alcohol, caffeine, and other stimulant drugs; uncontrolled high blood sugar, jarring motion as in running or horseback riding; and a high protein diet also can damage the kidneys. The metabolism of protein, especially large quantities of dense animal protein, greatly increases their workload.
tTwo healthy kidneys give us more renal function than we need. Some people are born with only one kidney and lead normal, healthy lives, as do the many people who donate kidneys to relatives or friends. Small declines in kidney function may not cause problems, but sometimes these reductions signify kidney disease that will worsen over time. Serious health problems occur when kidney function falls to 25 percent or less, and only dialysis or a kidney transplant will save people whose kidney function drops below 10 to 15 percent.
The two most important things you can do to protect your kidney function from further decline are to follow a low-protein diet (no more than 10-15 percent of calories from protein), and never allow yourself to become dehydrated. I recommend trying to drink six to eight glasses of fluids daily, water or mostly water in the form of hot or iced caffeine-free teas or mineral water (flavored or unflavored – but not sweetened). You can find tips for reducing the amount of protein in your diet from the National Kidney Foundation at.
Take care my friend , waiting on a list for a kidney transplant , is pure terror.
good luck to you!

The general belief that Diabetes is always due to short of Insulin is not correct. In majority of cases, it can be due to Metabolism syndrome, when the body cells have become resistant to adopt the insulin or the insulin has become non-effective. In such cases, the herbs for correction of digestion system will be helpful. One such herb available and used in India is Piper Cabeba.( commonly known as Sheetal Chini).
Though this is time-tested, we can also consult our physicians.
