Could I have diabetes or not?

Jennifer S asked:

I don’t know too much about diabetes type 2. I was tested around 6 years ago and it was negative. I am 20 and 118 pounds. Right now I am always thirsty. I am also tired. I can barely make it past 10 pm and I don’t sleep well. No one in my immediate family has it but 2 of my grandparents and 1 of my aunts do. I just want to know if it could be or not. or if I can get some more info.

You could also have a thyroid problem. I do. I have to take medicine for it. If I don’t, I get really tired and thirsty.

You might have to see a doctor to determine if you have diabetes or not.

If you’re really concerned if you have diabetes, go see a doctor again. If it isn’t diabetes, it’s something else, and the yahoos on Yahoo Answers aren’t going to be able to treat you.

As for more info, google diabetes, or check

LOL you are paranoid. Right now I am learning about nutrition. Diabetes type 2 is most common in over weight individuals. You are not overweight, in fact, you could probably stand to gain a few pounds depending on your height. If you are 5′4 and over, you are perfectly fine… skinny at that. You’re thirsty.. so am I. Go take a swig of water and you’ll be fine. Tired? So am I. I’m a university student, It’s 10pm, I feel like sleeping. Don’t worry so much. Youre completely normal. If you’re so worried, go see ur doctor. Watch ur sugar, fat and carbohydrate intake, don’t over do it, and exercise. But by the sounds of it, you are just paranoid.

Being always thirsty and tired are symtoms of diabetes.
This does not mean you have it. You could have developed over the past 6 years. The only way to know for sure is to have yourself tested.
The ancient Greeks used to diagnose diabetes by checking whether ants are attracted to your urine. Sprinkle some on the ground and see what happens as a self test, or go to the doctor and get checked out.
