Anyone had/have gestational diabetes? Question about test reaction?

songbird1602 asked:

I went in this morning for my 1hr glucose test and since I’ve gotten home I feel completely wrecked. They told me to have some cereal when I got home to try and prevent too bad of a crash from the test and I did that but then a little over an hour later I crashed big time. I took a 2 hour nap and when I got back up I feel weak and shaky. Even just walking to the kitchen to get water I feel like my legs are about to collapse underneath me. Is this normal? Has anyone else had this kind of reaction after their test? Did you have gestational diabetes?

I have had the 3 hr test done before a few years ago for something else and can’t remember if I felt this way afterwards but I’m worried this time!
I just got a call from my nurse saying that my results came back normal. I should have asked her about the shaking – Yeah, that’s baby brain at its best for you!
Still would be interested in finding out if anyone else had this happen and what, if anything they found out happened?

I was that way (shaky, dizzy, nearly passing out) after the hour was up. I even got sick in the waiting room. My blood sugar was too low, not high, and they didn’t have me do the 3 hour test.
No, I don’t have gestational diabetes, just low blood sugar (which I’ve had to go to the ER for, since being pregnant).

  2. Caffeinated Content

It’s 100g of sugar on an empty stomach. It won’t harm you, but it’s really uncomfortable because pregnant women don’t do well with starving themselves then pigging out on sugar! So don’t worry too much, I know lots of women feel horrible after this test and some even throw up or pass out. It doesn’t bother other women, go figure! Next time (if there was such a thing) pack something to eat right in your purse so you don’t have to drive home like that.

I hope you’re rested up now, and congrats on the normal results.
